Wirral Bicycle Belles
Who are we?
Bicycle Belles is a women-only group set up to encourage and help women to cycle. Since we were established in 2010, we have gone from strength to strength and have helped many women to start or resume cycling and grow in confidence.
Where do we ride?
We lead shortish women-only ride following the traffic-free paths and quieter roads on the Wirral and occasionally beyond. Rides are designed for beginners and are typically flat, somewhere between 16-22 miles long and taken at a leisurely pace so there is plenty of opportunity to chat. We ride in small groups each with an experienced leader but meet up again part way at a cafe for coffee and cake.
When do we meet?
We meet at 10.45am on the third Saturday morning of each month apart from December when it is the second Saturday.
starting on the concourse beneath the clock on Lever House, near the train station in Port Sunlight, CH62 4XB. We understand people have other commitments and always aim to finish back at the start by lunchtime.
What are the dates & details for 2025?
- Women only rides between 16 and 22 miles with a longer option in the Summer. Rides are on the 3rd Saturday of each month apart from December when it is the second Saturday. Riders meet at 10.45am outside the Lever Building near Port Sunlight Station. All groups have trained leaders and back-markers and no-one is left behind. There is a cafe stop around half-way. Riders can just turn up or email bikemum512@gmail.com with any queries.
- There is an option to go on our mailing list so that you receive details of the ride along with a Garmin route. We ask riders to bring basic equipment such as an inner tube and also to have suitable clothing with them. Cancellations are posted on our Facebook site where you can also see details of the rides each month.
These are the rides for the rest of 2024 (subject to change):
Your leaders have arranged our next cycle ride for Saturday morning, 22th February 2025.
We plan to visit the Gift Cafe Puddington for a refreshment break, a circuit of 21.45 miles.
***Please bring a lock for your bike because you cannot see the bike stands from the cafe***
Here is the Garmin link for the route (although we may need to follow a slightly altered route):
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/241204537
The rides for 2025 are planned for:
15th March
19th April
17th May
21st June
19th July
16th Aug
20th Sep
18th Oct
15th Nov
13th Dec
We will start and finish outside the Lever Building in Port Sunlight (close to Port Sunlight Station). Please arrive in time and by at least 9.45am to give your details to your group leader, complete a bike check and then set off at 10am prompt.
Please ensure that your bike is road-worthy and that you have some basic repair equipment with you such as a pump, tyre levers and spare inner tube. Please also ensure that you have suitable clothing on or with you.
If a ride is cancelled then we will do our very best to post this on our Facebook page and I will do my very best to send an email around to that effect. In the past we have cancelled rides if we think that poor weather will make sections of the ride unsafe.
*** If you wish to be removed from this mailing list then please email me at any point to let me know. If you do not email to tell me that then I will assume that you wish to remain on the list. Do not email me if you wish to remain on the list. ***
*** We do encourage women who ride with us on more than 3 occasions to join Cycling UK. There are many advantages to joining which you can view on their website***
www.cyclinguk.org.uk
One of the advantages membership offers is to take part in their on-line ride leader training. If you are a member then you would already have received an email with details of the training. If you would like to become a ride leader or backmarker for us then please email me to let me know. Our leaders volunteer to help on a monthly basis and we would be very supportive of anyone looking to help. If you do not want to lead you may consider doing the training and helping out with another important role which is that of backmarker. Get in touch if you fancy having a go.
Best wishes,
Margaret
